JUDGE HANY HOSTS LEADERSHIP OTTAWA COUNTY

Frederick ("Fritz") C. Hany II, Judge of the Ottawa County Municipal Court, hosted members of Leadership Ottawa County on December 14, 2005 at the Ottawa County Municipal Court. Judge Hany spoke with the group about the types of cases that are heard in the Municipal Court on a daily basis. In addition, Judge Hany explained the Court's operation, its budget, and its highly successful mediation program.

Leadership Ottawa County is a community leadership development program seeking to prepare, involve and sustain leaders from diverse backgrounds who are committed to addressing community issues and opportunities within Ottawa County. Participants have the ability to broaden their leadership skills as well as establish a personal and professional network of individuals who are active in the community.

The class curriculum includes sessions on: Leadership Skills, Team Building, Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution, Communication and Public Speaking, Boardsmanship, Business and Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, Government Structure, History and Heritage of Ottawa County, Education and Diversity, Justice and Law and Enforcement, Health and Human Services, and Tourism. The class meets the second Wednesday of each month from September through May. Class times are 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Meeting location varies throughout the county and class members also participate in an overnight retreat. Leadership Ottawa County is one of Ottawa County's newest community organizations. It is a community development program and is open to individuals who work or reside in Ottawa County who show promise of becoming community leaders as well as individuals who have already achieved leadership status. Members of each class spend a day learning about education, law enforcement, local government and economic development in Ottawa County. They also attend seminars on leadership, public speaking and conflict resolution.
