Judge Hany, his wife Susan (Loeffler) and family reside in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

Judge Hany received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and his Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law. Upon passing the Ohio Bar Exam in November, 1984, he became a partner in the law firm of Rosentreter, Robertson and Hany. In February of 1991, at the age of 31, Judge Hany was appointed to the Municipal Court bench by Governor George O. Voinovich. He has since been elected three times to this Court.


While Judge Hany has served the citizens of Ottawa County, Ohio as Municipal Court Judge, he has also helped to improve the legal system of the State of Ohio by serving on boards and committees which have recommended ways to modernize areas of law enforcement and court administration. Chief Justice Thomas Moyer of the Ohio Supreme Court has appointed him as chair of the Ohio Traffic Rules commission. The Ohio Supreme Court has appointed him to the Ohio Judicial Campaign Grievance Commission and the Ohio Task


Force on Enforcement of Motorist Insurance Laws. Most recently, Chief Justice Moyer placed him on the Ohio Sentencing Commission to serve as one of three (3) municipal court judge members. Judge Hany presently serves as a faculty member for the Ohio Judicial College. He has presented numerous seminars to fellow judges regarding jury trials, sentencing procedures and DUI law. In addition, he has taught Civil Litigation for paralegals at the Bowling Green State University (Firelands Campus).


Judge Hany is a member and affiliated with the following professional organizations: American Association of Judges, Ohio Municipal/County Judges Association (elected Trustee 2001), U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio, The Ohio State Bar Association and the Ottawa County Bar Association.
